The ICMR - Biomedical Informatics Centre at NIRRH had organized a 3-day workshop on “Creation of databases using MS Access” from 16 th to 18 th June, 2009 . The workshop was sponsored by the Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi .

Data maintained on papers, can be illegible, incomplete and easily lost or mishandled in storage. Electronic databases aid in systematic data capture and easy management. Thus t he objective of conducting this workshop was to educate clinicians, social workers, academicians and researchers on creation and use of electronic databases. Nineteen participants were given hands-on training on the use of MS Access.

The topics addressed during the workshop were introduction to databases, creation and management of tables and queries, designing forms and generation of reports. The mode of training was through lectures followed by hands-on sessions.
